How Invisalign Works

Invisalign consists of a series of clear aligners that are custom-made to fit each person’s smile as it progresses through treatment. Worn 20-22 hours each day, the aligners apply gentle pressure so that teeth will shift over time. Frequent dental visits are required to ensure everything is moving along smoothly, and patients are required to swap out aligners every two weeks (unless otherwise noted) to ensure their teeth continue to shift in the right direction. On average, Invisalign results can be achieved in 12-18 months, but this is dependent on the patient’s commitment and the severity of their case.

The Benefits of Invisalign

There are many benefits that a person can enjoy when opting for Invisalign instead of traditional metal braces. These include:

  • Greater comfort because there are no protruding brackets or wires

  • Easy maintenance, as a soft-bristled toothbrush, lukewarm water, and clear soap are all that is required to keep them clean

  • Faster results (on average)

  • A more subtle way to straighten teeth because of the clear aligners

  • No food restrictions
